Private Lessons

I offer lessons to fully vaccinated students (including the booster) at my house in Oakland, close to highways 580 and 13 and online via Zoom, using a high-resolution two-camera setup.

I teach:

  • jazz piano – all levels
  • salsa/AfroCuban/Latin jazz piano – all levels
  • basic piano and keyboard harmony for non-pianists (singers, arrangers, players of other instruments)
  • music theory
  • composition/songwriting
  • music notation with Sibelius – beginning and intermediate users
  • music production (MIDI and audio recording, editing, and mixing) with MOTU Digital Performer – all levels

Balancing experiential exercises with theoretical understanding, I can help you improve your piano skills and deepen your enjoyment of music at any level from beginner to working pro.

My preferred payment methods are Zelle and Venmo, but I also accept Paypal (“family and friends” payments only, no credit cards), cash or check.

My teaching is informed by a thorough grounding in music theory and classical training from age five, decades of performing and recording with world-class musicians in jazz and Latin music, and many years of teaching classes at the California Jazz Conservatory (aka The Jazzschool) in Berkeley and private lessons at my home studio. (See my bio for details.)

While my instruction is rigorous, my personal style is informal. My goal is to create a fun and supportive environment for your musical growth.
